Thank you, Ilderton: two all-candidates meetings

If you don’t vote, you can’t complain – Rick Mercer

This month residents had two chances to hear from both candidates for Mayor, and I'm grateful to everyone who made the time.

The Ilderton Lions Club hosted an in-person all-candidates meeting at the Ilderton Community Centre. Fellow candidate for Mayor John Brennan and I sat at the same table and took your questions. I spoke about diversifying our local economy so that growth pays its own way, looking after the environment we all share, and standing up for farming, which is still the backbone of Middlesex Centre. Thank you to the Lions for organizing the evening and giving neighbours a room to ask their questions in person. Service clubs like the Lions are a big part of what makes this community work.

There was also a virtual -candidates meeting over Zoom, so people who couldn't get to Ilderton on a weeknight could join from the kitchen table in Komoka, Delaware, Arva or anywhere on the concessions. Thank you to the organizers, and to everyone who logged on and asked a question.

Both evenings were respectful and useful, and that is how it should be. Whatever the result on October 26, Middlesex Centre is well served by residents who show up and ask.

If you missed them, photos are on our Facebook Page. Voting is online or by phone from Monday, October 19 at 9 a.m. until Monday, October 26 at 8 p.m., and you can plan your vote in a minute.
